Kos Travel Guide
Places to go
Kos, located on the Aegean Sea, is a popular resort in the Dodecanese islands. Miles of gorgeous beaches, thrilling watersports and lively nightlife are what make Kos holidays so attractive to tourists. The sun-soaked island resort can be combined with similar resorts like Leros, Nisyros and Rhodes that lie in close vicinity. Holidays to Kos are ideal if you're looking to spend some time in sun and simply relax as it offers many secluded coves and naturist-friendly beaches.
Fabulous Kos beaches
Kos is home to the most fabulous beaches in all of Dodecanese islands. Lots of fine sands, crystal clear waters and full of tourist facilities are what make Agios Stefanos, Kardamena, Kefalos and Lambi unique. Mastichari is a short drive away and has watersports and sunbathing amenities. Agios and Kardamena are bustling with tavernas and cafes to relax in.
Old Roman architecture
The Roman Odeon is an ampitheatre dating back to 2nd century AD and served as the venue of musical contests as well as the seat of the senate. With a capacity of 750 people, this had marble seats and a stepped gallery. The Asklepios is another ruin of a medical centre built tto the Greek God of Medicine, Asklepios. Other ruins include thermal baths, altars and an ancient spa.
Watch sunset from a peak
Mount Dikeos is the highest peak of Kos, and at 846 meters you get fascinating views of the island and its surroundings. A good vantage point to watch the beautiful sunset. The volcanic rock mass is full of pine and brushwood trees with many ravines running down its rock face. A hiking trailruns to the pictresque village of Zia and its churches, tavernas and small shops cater to tourists.
Go clubbing at Kardamena
Kardamena is great for night owls with bars, clubs and discos all along its famous 'Bar Street'. The harbour and the backstreets of Kos Town spring into life during the evenings and nightclubs such as Status, Sarai and Starlight are fabulous places to let your hair down and party. Plenty of cafes, tavernas and fast food shops line the main resorts so there are plenty of places to eat after you're night on the town.
