Three sandy beaches
Puerto del Carmen is perfect for beach holidays, with three golden beaches to choose from. Most hotels boast wonderful sea views and you're never far from sweeping, powder, soft sands. There also several coves you can explore at numerous palm-fringed resorts. With 1.2 km of sands, the Blue Flag Playa Grande beach slopes gently into calm waters and is a perfect spot for kids to paddle in. For watersports, head to Playa Chica, where the volcanic rocks make it ideal for snorkelling.
Activities in Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen’s unique lunar-like terrain is worth exploring on camelback or riding a 4x4 safari. There are a host of activities to indulge in, such as swimming in the calm waters, joining the diving school near the beach or dining at the harbour during evening. Golfers can tee off at the 18-hole Lanzarote Golf Course on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen.
Visit the Timanfaya National Park
Take a guided tour of the Martian landscape of Fire Mountains, a fascinating landscape of over 100 volcanoes that have been erupting over the last few centuries. Known as the Timanfaya National Park, you can enjoy the view from the cosy confines of the El Diablo restaurant, which serves authentic Canarian cuisine. You can also drive 30 minutes to the coast of Arrecife, Lanzarote’s capital, and visit the 16th-century sea fortress of Castillo San Gabriel.
Party hop and shop for souvenirs
A former fishing village, Puerto del Carmen is dotted with seafront bars and pubs. If you’re looking for a lively evening out, hit the promenade that transforms into a party hub in the late hours. There are loads of options for shopping, whether its crafts and souvenirs at Beach Avenue, or stores at the upmarket Biosfera complex, or even a drive to the nearby Calle Juan Carlo. You can also pick up local pottery in the Old Town.
