Fujairah Fort

Fujairah Fort was built in 1670 and was damaged extensively when the British army attacked in the 20th century. It holds the title for most ancient fort in the UAE and has been used as a dwelling for past ruling families. Fujairah has been working hard on restoration works and Fujairah Fort is close to its former glory. There is a village surrounding the fort, set up by the Department of Archeology and Heritage of Fujairah, and guests can tour remakes of the ancient houses and agricultural tidbits that show what life would have been like.

Bitnah Fort

Bitnah Fort is just 8 miles out of the city and is easily accessed from the city’s main highway. The fort is closely related to the Hajar Mountains and was built so the paths and the people crossing them could be watched over. Built in 1735 and honoured with great military importance for the time, this fort protected the eastern region of the United Arab Emirates and is iconic with its golden stone walls, blocky silhouette, and circular watchtower. Bitnah Fort overlooks the countryside, the Palm groves, and the Hajar Mountains themselves and is well worth the visit to the towers.
