Overview
With 100km of sun-drenched sands, Spain’s ‘Golden Coast’ definitely lives up to its name. You won’t find wild party resorts here, instead the fun is kept family-friendly, with theme parks and waterparks next to fishing villages and picturesque waterfronts – the perfect mix for summer holidays. Salou is the liveliest spot, with Cambrils and La Pineda a little quieter but just as beautiful. All boast brilliant beaches – many of them Blue Flags - and with 300 days of sunshine a year, every day is a beach day!
Costa Dorada holidays are all about kicking back, relaxing and spending quality time in the gorgeous Spanish sunshine. Getting Around
The closest airport to the Costa Dorada is Reus. There are buses going to and from the main resorts several times a day. A taxi is a convenient option, with transfer times of between 15-30 mins. Once in resort, you’ll find it easy to get around by bus and taxi – Cambrils, Salou and La Pineda sit just minutes apart along the coast. There’s also a good train service connecting Cambrils, Salou and Tarragona.

Salou is a magnet for tourists who love golden beaches and family fun. There are rides, a long promenade, restaurants and beach bars lining the lovely Salou beachfront. A perfect stop on the Costa Dorada’s ‘Golden Coast’.
Day trip to Barcelona
See more of Spain on your holiday and take a trip to the buzzing city of Barcelona, located just down the coast. Start with a visit to the Nou Camp football ground for sports lovers and move on to the famous Gaudi cathedral, the bustling La Ramblas for shopping and the gothic quarter for tasty tapas. Spend your free time soaking up the sights and be sure to spend time exploring the city’s spectacular sands, food stalls and street performers.
Fiests on the Sands
From bustling promenades to sunny golden sands, this coast has its pick of great resorts. Costa Dorada is also renowned for its lively fiestas and you can enjoy the biggest of them all in June, when a medley of music and colourful dancing fill the streets of Cambrils to honour San Pedro (or St Peter). If you’re summer holiday starts later, September sees the Fiesta of Santa Tecla held in Tarragona, when a traditional parade hits the seaside town. Mark your calendar for the annual Corpus Christi flower festival too, when locals lay out intricate floral patterns on the streets of Sitges.
Paddle at La Pineda
The Costa Dorada is fringed with fabulous sandy beaches. La Pineda is a perfect resort for those with little ones, with shallow waters gently lapping a long Blue Flag beach. If it’s watersports you’re after though, neighbouring Cambrils has 9 Blue Flag beaches, and this breezier part of the coast is perfect for windsurfing and surfing.
Family Fun
The PortAventura theme park adds massive fun factor to the Costa Dorada, with six zones jam-packed with roaring rides, spectacular shows and popular play areas. Thrill seekers should hold on tight for Dragon Khan and Furius Baco, while little ones will love the Sesame Street zone. There’s also the Costa Caribe aqua park, for thrills, spills and water play and the Aquapolis waterpark. Wherever you stay you’re sure to find restaurants that welcome kids, or spend the evening in some of Salou’s great family bars – try Chaplins for entertainment for all ages.
Terrific Tarragona
Enjoy the best of both worlds in the seafront town of Tarragona. The white sands and turquoise waters are perfect for a paddle and right on the seafront you'll find the vast Roman amphitheatre. Tarragona's cobbled streets are a warren of shops and restaurants, offering lots to do in the evening as well.
Shop for Bargains
Shop for bargains at the Bonavista Market on Sunday mornings, where hundreds of stalls pop up selling clothes, jewellery and pottery. It’s also where the locals shop for fresh fruits and seafood. The old, historical part of Cambrils also hosts a weekly general market, where hungry holidaymakers can pick up olive oil, churros and other treats, alongside other stalls where you can shop for antiques, books and other relics.
