Holidays in Málaga have become a fantastic getaway after this trendy, seaside resort underwent a fabulous €100m makeover. Often overlooked as the gateway to the Costa del Sol, 2016's European Capital of Culture has serious city-and-beach credentials. Explore the historic centre around the famous Gothic cathedral, shop for the latest looks at its boutiques and markets, or view the cityscape of spires, lofty apartments and red-tiled roofs from the 11th-century Gibralfaro Castle. For those looking for an unforgettable, leisure-filled city break, Málaga holidays tick all the boxes. Enjoy the nearby beaches, the charming hillside villages and the shgopping in central Malage and why not take a drive along the famous Costa del Sol coastline where you'll find golf courses, spas, luxury hotels, fabulous marinas, waterparks, towns and a huge array of activities, restaurants and nightlife. A central and sunkissed destination, just waiting to be explored.

Explore Fine Beaches

Malaga has 15 lovely beaches, all reachable from the city centre. Each has its own special charm, Playa de le Caleta is one of Malaga's most popular beaches and great for beach volleyball and outdoor workouts. Playa de la Malagueta is a large, sandy man-made beach very popular with local Spanish families. Playa de la Misericordia, further eastwards, is a lovely dark sand beach that has the best waves for bodyboarders and surfers. And if you need a pick-me-up, they all have fabulous beach bars, cafes and restaurants on hand.

Visit the Picasso Museum

Málaga is the birthplace of Picasso and the must-visit Museo Picasso has more than 285 stunning works of art by the painter himself, all donated by his family. A treasure trove of art, don't leave without seeing the fascinating Roman and Renaissance ruins in the basement, found during its construction, finish off with a relaxing drink in the pretty, terraced courtyard café.

Sample Malaga Cuisine

El Balneario is one of Málaga's oldest restaurant and perhaps the most posh. Take time to sip a cocktail whilst trying out the assortment of seafood snacks in its al fresco dining area. Bursting with old world charm, there is live music on Saturdays. Óleo is another popular eaterie very hot right now for its delicious fusion of Mediterranean tapas and sushi. Try the roasted piglet or duck breast with seaweed. Cervantes is the best known tapas bar and also serves light snacks and meat dishes.

Chic Shopping in Malaga

Muelle Uno is a chic waterfront shopping arcade opposite Málaga’s trendy port. Shops and boutiques sell everything from cosmetics and designer clothes to handmade jewellery and home furnishings. There is a street market on the second Sunday of every month with over 100 shops and kiosks selling handmade crafts and children's clothing to delicious organic food and locally-produced olive oil and meats.
