One of the most beloved holiday spots in the Mediterranean, Tossa de Mar is the ideal getaway for people who love sun, beaches, pools and fun... so that’s everyone then! The family-friendly atmosphere along with the sheer number of sights and activities available in the town also make it a perfect place for holidays with children.

Tossa de Mar holidays are ideal for every type of holidaymaker. The gorgeous weather makes it perfect for those who just want to soak up the sun and enjoy a good book, but there’s also something for those seeking a more varied holiday. You can visit the nearby castle and take in the sites, wander through the medieval town’s streets, or get cultured in one of the many museums and galleries dotted throughout.

You’d be wrong to think holidays to Tossa de Mar are stuffy, no-fun affairs though. Each night is another opportunity to sample a new local restaurant, and the family fun never has to stop as most hotels offer nightly entertainment, too. If you want to escape the crowds, you can head a short distance out of town to discover one of the many hidden beaches dotted along this section of the sunny Costa Brava.

A short distance from Barcelona, Tossa de Mar is easy to get to for most British travellers, and offers a perfect mix of traditional Spanish culture with enough familiar themes to ensure you never get homesick.

    Platja Gran Beach

    Platja Gran Beach

The largest beach in Tossa De Mar, Platja Gran starts at the walls of Castillo de Tossa and runs almost as far as the eye can see. Sun loungers and umbrellas cover the pebbles as families enjoy the calm Mediterranean waters throughout the summer months. Boat tours leaving from the beach can give you an incredible view of the castle, and after a long day of doing nothing, you only have to walk a couple of meters behind you to find dozens of places where you can get a quick bite to eat.

    Castillo De Tossa De Mar

    Castillo De Tossa De Mar

This incredible 12th century castle still stands proud, overlooking the town of Tossa de Mar. It’s impossible to miss the castle’s magnificent walls from pretty much anywhere in the town (you’ll get a great view by simply heading down to Platja Gran beach), but to truly take in all its splendour you’ll want to walk up the gentle incline to reach the upper sections. Don’t worry, there’s a café at the top so you can grab a cold drink while enjoying the views.

    Moorish Tower

    Moorish Tower

If Castillo de Tossa de Mar isn’t enough for a full family day of activities, the Moorish tower will provide enough excitement to tire the kids out. The ancient battlement looks like something out of Game of Thrones. It’s a bit harder to reach on foot than the castle, but the views from the tower are truly spectacular.

    Cala Pola Cove

    Cala Pola Cove

Sometimes the best way to enjoy a holiday with the kids is to let them run wild on a hidden beach away from the crowds. If this is what you’re looking for in Tossa de Mar then look no further than Cala Pola. Hiding in a little cove just outside of the main town, Cala Pola offers a more relaxed alternative to Platja Gran but still has several beach-side bars and restaurants to choose from. You can get here with ease by hailing a taxi, but those searching for a bit of a family adventure can walk along the coast to reach this hidden gem.
