Sardinia Holidays

Overview

With pretty towns that ooze Italian charm and tradition, spectacular thermal springs and beautiful beaches that gently slip into azure seas, you can see why Sardinia holidays are a firm bucket-list favourite. The beautiful Italian isle is just a two-hour flight away from the UK, making it a perfect last-minute sun getaway, romantic break or family holiday retreat - and 120 miles west of mainland means it's an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle.

Unlike its counterpart Sicily, Sardinia holidays are aseismic and non-volcanic, and generally considered safe by tourists. The island's north coast is sprinkled with 80 sandy coves, not to mention the enchanting Emerald Coast, with craggy mountains that overlook white-sand bays and crystal seas. If you like hiking, put on your boots and embark on a trail that snakes through the beautiful mountains, oak and chestnut trees peaks that offer magnificent views of the island and the sea.

The elegant towns and harbours are also a magnet for well-heeled travellers, making holidays to Sardinia popular with celebrities and A-listers, naturally. During the evenings, the Alghero district is bustling with lively bars and clubs where you can let your hair down. Of course, Sardinia holidays aren't complete without indulging in the amazing Italian cuisine – whether you choose unforgettable beachfront restaurants or pretty town tavernas, make sure gelato is on the menu! When in Oristano, (and if you're brave enough), try out Sardinia’s quirky take on cheese known as Casu Marzu, full of maggots which may be eaten with the ripe cheese. This sun-drenched gem is one of Italy's greatest treasures and once you see these beaches you'll be booking your next Sardinia getaway in no time!

Getting Around

Sardinia has an extensive network of public transport, including taxis, buses and trains. These are the best choices for getting around the island. Ask your hotel/resort reception to book you tickets for the ‘Little Green Train’, which is good for exploring more secluded spots, or hire a car if you like to have the flexibility of heading off the beaten track. The train network connects into all the major towns on the island, except east and centre, which are not well served by trains. Taxis are readily available in the main towns - but if you want to make the most out of the stunning surroundings, walk around the resorts and beaches!
