Places to see

Malta's most modern tourism-oriented resort, Sliema holidays boast stunning sea views, beachfront hotels, buzzing promenade and upbeat nightlife. With English being spoken just about everywhere, it is favoured by British holidaymakers as a popular Mediterranean destination. Tiny, pretty lidos across the waterfront, a serene marina and a laid-back vibe make Sliema a great pick for families and friends. Holidays in Sliema are all about enjoying Malta's awesome waters –go waterskiiing in the bay, snorkel off the coast, take a trip to Gozo or head along the harbour to visit beautiful Valetta. Tourists can also enjoy the island's largest mall, lounge in classy bars or party the night away. With great towns and resorts in striking distance, Sliema offers a lot of variety, and better still the island boasts one of the best climates in the whole of the Med.

Swim in Sliema waters

Sliema has a rocky coastline but a number of lidos and flat jetties serve as great places to swim and sunbathe. There are jetties and rock lidos to enjoy with ladders into the sea. Sliema also offers good opportunities for water-skiers and jet-skiers to make a splash in the sea. If you fancy sandy beaches, take a boat or ferry to the nearby towns and islands.

Take a boat cruise

Tour around the Grand Harbour in a catamaran or glass bottom cruises to explore the scenic surrounding and nearby attractions. Cruises to the neighbouring islands of Gozo and Comino – usually preferred for their fine beaches – are favourites among visitors. There's also a 10-minute ferry ride to Valetta, known for its rich architecture, golden sandstone streets and impressive fortification.

Family fun in Sliema

There are a number of fun children's attractions located near the resort. The Great Siege of Malta in Valletta, a good show for the family, is a ferry ride away. Splash & Fun Water Park and Mediterraneo Marine Park is a short drive away, and for shopaholics, the island's largest shopping mall at Tigne Point is a must.

Buzzing nightlife

The vibrant nightlife of Sliema includes lively pubs, bars and discos, centred on Triq ixXatt. Grab a beer or a cocktail and head to a venue playing heady music. Paceville is the most upbeat place, but if you want an exclusive experience, drop in at Twenty-two. Located at the top of Malta's highest building, this place charms you with amazing views and unadulterated fun.
