Mellieha Bay

The golden sands of Mellieha Bay (also known as Ghadira Bay) and its clear, shallow waters are a sure hit with sunbathers, snorkelers and watersports enthusiasts. Rocky outcrops divide the beach into three stretches, ranging from lively to quiet, so guests can take their pick. Cool down with a bottle of Cisk, an award-winning local beer (some may find it too bitter) or treat yourself to an ice-cream from famous Charlie’s hut, which has been running for over 30 years. Nearby you'll find Golden Bay and Bugibba's Perched Beach, which are also worth a visit.

The Blue Lagoon, Malta

Set aside an afternoon to visit the Blue Lagoon in Comino Island, its Mediterranean waters reflecting the blue sky, with pure white sand visible beneath. Swim, sunbathe, snorkel or simply laze on the beach. A ferry takes you to hilly Gozo, where you can soak in the picturesque countryside, take in historical sights and shop for cheese, woollens and handmade lace. Or explore the fortress city of Mdina and the lively streets of Valletta, where you can gaze at cruise-liners in the Grand Harbour.
