Getting Around

The island is easy to get around and taxis are popular. There is also a regular local bus service, and car, quad bike and moped hire are also options. Shuttle bus services can help you to get between airport and resort, and there are private bus tour services also available. Boat trips can get you between the major coastal towns, and plenty of walking trails mean you can explore by foot.

Car hire is a great way of exploring the island at your own pace, and offers an easy way of seeing the less-touristy side of the island. An international driving permit is recommended. Driving is on the right.

 History & Culture

Santorini, ike the whole of Greece has thousands of years worth of history to uncover.

Located in the south west of the island, the ruins of Akrotiri date back to the Bronze Age and are widely considered to be one of the most important archaeological digs in the world. They were discovered in the mid-19th century, where the buildings are still being unearthed today. Around 40 buildings have been excavated, which once made up the Minoan town before it was buried in volcanic ash.

Pretty Emporio village is the largest on the island and is famous for its windmills and iconic blue-domed churches. Overlooking the sweeping beaches of Perissa and Perivolos, visitors can roam its cobbled streets and explore its old castle, spired churches and pretty squares.
