Getting Around
Gouves is located about 16km from Heraklion International Airport. If you’re already in Greece, it’s best to take a boat to Heraklion. Buses are the only form of public transport available in Crete, so if you want to explore a little more of the island you can hire a car and do so.
Be A Beach Bum At Kato Gouves
Go windsurfing on the sandy beaches or take a banana boat into the clear waters at Kato Gouves beach. Once you’ve worked up an appetite after scuba diving or paragliding, there are enough cafes and beach bars to check out nearby. If you prefer to laze for hours under the sun, be aware that you have to pay for use of sun-beds or the colourful umbrellas that dot the beach.
Hit The CretAquarium
Tour the massive CretAquarium just a short distance away in Gournes, Heraklion, to witness the magic of what lies beneath the water. Little explorers will enjoy being guided along nearly 60 tanks, which host over 2,000 examples of colourful marine life. If you're after adrenaline-pumping fun for the family, head to the Aqua Plus waterpark where you can whizz through dark tunnels, zoom down the Crazy River or get a relaxing hydro-massage in the pool.
