The waterfront town of Larnaca is the oldest city in Cyprus and holidays in Larnaca offer boundless character and charm. Get ready for plenty of sun and sea with long sandy beaches framed by shallow waters that are perfect for taking a dip with the kids. Larnaca holidays are great for a families with resorts offering loads of kids’ activities, theme parks, waterparks and family friendly restaurants.  Stroll along the promenade, visit a seaside fort, explore farmers markets or discover the Salt Lake next to the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque on your holidays in Larnaca. With a long summer season and warm weather lasting well into October, Cyprus is a great pick for sunworshippers and fun-loving groups. For buzzing nightlife, head along the coast to the party town of Ayia Napa to see world-famous DJs and dance till morning. If you’re visiting around Easter, don’t miss the festival on St Lazarus Day for music, dancing and food stalls along the procession to the sea.

Enjoy watersports in Larnaca

The warm, crystal-clear waters of Larnaca are perfect for watersports. From a gentle swim to bodyboarding, kite surfing and jet skis, there’s something for everybody. The shallow waters of the CTO beach are great for kids to paddle in. You can also enjoy banana boat and tube rides, waterskiing, wakeboarding, canoeing and kayaking, with instructors around to lend a helping hand. Kitesurfing is extremely popular near Mazotos and Kiti villages, where steady winds and calm waters make it an ideal spot to participate in summer tournaments if you're feeling competitive. If you want an adventure you won't forget, zoom across the waves on the Thrill Seeker Ocean Racer, a fast boat that makes you feel like you're flying through the water. History buffs can explore the world-famous Zenobia wreck, where divers can see the cargo ship in nearly perfect condition.

Blue Flag beaches

The main beach of Finikoudes, named after its iconic palm trees, is lined with stores, bars and restaurants. This 500m-long beach is well-maintained and its waters are calm enough for families to take a dip along with kids. Walk along the marina, hop on a boat for a fishing trip or simply lie back on a sunbed and bask in the warm sun. Barely a 15-minute walk from Larnaca’s centre lies the Blue Flag Castella Beach, with fine grey sands and shallow waters.

Days out: Spot flamingos on the Larnaca Salt Lake

For incredible scenery during your holidays in Larnaca, drive down to the Salt Lake (a network of four lakes) and be greeted by the sight of pink flamingos in winter. In summer, spend the afternoon strolling around and flying kites around the lakes. A short 15 minutes drive from Larnaca is Mazotos Village, where you can take a camel ride at Camel Park (and there's a play area for kids). Want to try your hand at shooting clay targets? Head to the Olympic shooting range. For a family-friendly day and a chance to cool off, head to WaterWorld in Ayia Napa.

Go shopping for souvenirs

Larnaca is a great place to shop for souvenirs including pottery, handmade lace, silverwork and authentic Cypriot accessories. Hit Zenon Kitieos Street, the main shopping area, for designer brands like Fendi and Versace. To shop with the locals, check out the Sunday open market held in a parking lot at Ermou Street, where you can snap up clothes, fashion accessories and snacks at a bargain. For beautiful pottery, drive down to Kornos, about an hour from Larnaca. If you have time, visit Leftkara village where you can pick up handmade lace and silverware directly from artisans.
