Places to Go and Things to Do

Amazing Antalya

Also known as the Turkish Riviera, the Antalya region, including Side, Belek, Lara Beach and Alanya, can be found on the south-west coast of Turkey. Its soft sandy beaches attract sun-loving holidaymakers every year and the great nightspots, beach clubs, golf, shopping and sunshine make this coast a summer hostpot.

Enjoy the Old Town

When it comes to family fun on holiday Antalya has plenty of tricks up its sleeve. The city has great shop, restaurants and bars and golden beaches are never far away. The old centre, also known as Kaleici, has retain its authentic charm and is peppered with shops, tavernas and local bars. There are museums, galleries and pony rides around the city.

Head for the Mountains

Opened in 1996, this 320-mile pathway is considered to be one of the world’s best long walks. Running between Antalya and Fethiye, we don’t expect you to walk all of it, but it’s a great way to enjoy the scenery and the sensational views. Pack your trainers, a camera for those jaw-dropping vistas and a sun hat.

Enjoy Endless Sands

Antalya is also known as the Turkish Riveria, and with good reason – its coast is a long sweep of sandy beaches and quiet coves with beautiful spots for sunbathing. The region is home to the top resorts of Lara Beach and Belek. If you’re visiting between May and October, check out the amazing sand sculptures on Lara Beach; people flock from around the world to showcase their skills.

Essential Information

Getting Around

Public transport covers most of Turkey, so it should be fairly easy to get where you need to go. Alternatively, car hire is feasible and can offer great value for money, but roads can be hectic and the Highway Code is often ignored. Trains and buses are available if you’re planning a long distance trip, while the network of dolmus minibuses is popular for getting around towns and resorts. Taxis are also plentiful.

Travelling by bus or car

Dolmuses offer a casual bus service in most of the popular towns and resorts. They’re a fun and authentic way of exploring, but note that dolmus literally means ‘stuffed’, so be prepared to cram onto these minivans!

If you shop around, you’ll be able to arrange car hire cheaply. However, only confident drivers should consider it, because the roads, traffic and other drivers can sometimes leave a lot to be desired!

Passports and Visas

A visa is required. It’s recommended that you buy it in advance via the e-Visa website, rather than on arrival. It costs 20USD. Passports need to be valid for at least 6 months from entry. For more information and advice, visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/turkey/entry-requirements or the Foreign Office at www.fco.gov.uk/en/

Health and Safety

Make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance in place before you go away, to protect you while on holiday. Bear in mind that your EHIC isn’t valid in Turkey and that you may need additional cover for activities such as watersports. For more info, see www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/turkey/health

Vaccinations

There are currently no specific vaccinations needed for a holiday in Turkey, but see your GP closer to your holiday to double check the latest guidelines.
