Cheap Holidays to The Netherlands
Holidays to the Netherlands are all about exploring vibrant cities, seeing colourful tulip gardens, cycling around beautiful countryside and spending long evenings in candlelit cafes and classy clubs. Capture some culture in the capital of Amsterdam where you can roam 17th century canals, tick off world-class museums, relax in acres of parkland or swap city life for the coastline at IJburg beach. Adventure lovers can try banana boats, ziplining and power-boating at Rotterdam's Euromast and the popular seaside town of Scheveningen. Head to The Hague and rent a small boat so you can explore its canals and de Waterkant's gorgeous 'grassy terrace' before enjoying an evening stroll along its medieval streets, but no trip is complete without a visit to the artificial island of Neeltje Jans – known as Holland's eighth wonder of the world. Holland holidays have endless opportunities to explore, it’s a prime location for a one-of-a-kind vacation.
Places to Go and Things to Do
Tour the Canals
The historic waterways of Amsterdam are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provide a stunning backdrop to the city's historical centre. While you can wander down their winding walkways, there's nothing quite like gliding through the canals by boat. Bask in the beauty of the city's picturesque waters as you spot various sights and attractions that line the banks. Alternatively, do as the locals do and rent a bicycle, soaking up views of the buzzing city centre, pretty sidewalks, incredible flower market and wooden fairytale bridges under the canopies of shady elm trees.
Wander De Wallen
There is much more to the Red Light District than its reputation suggests and a walk around the area will give you a glimpse of its true character. Meander through the medieval alleyways that make up this inner-city and among the unmissable museums, shops and shows you'll find plenty of historic architecture, pubs and buzzing restaurants.
Discover Dutch Daytrips
Amsterdam is nearby other popular areas worth visiting when staying in the Netherlands and exploring the region is easy thanks to its reliable transport system. Head out to the country to see windmills and fields of tulips in Lisse (just 40 minutes from the city), soak up the cosmopolitan vibes in Utrecht, taste cheese in Gouda or hit Rotterdam just over an hour away.
Enjoy the Nightlife
Amsterdam's eclectic nightlife scene is one of the best in Europe and there's something for everyone whatever your age, budget or orientation. The Red Light district is known for its racy atmosphere and is normally home to stag parties, but Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein are equally happening. Dance the night away at AIR – Amsterdam's sizeable multi-floor club – enjoy an evening of entertainment at Melkweg's live music halls, also home to a cinema, theatre and café or wind down at Wynand Fockink , a 350-year-old wine tasting house.
