Cheap Holidays to Croatia

Croatia holidays are all about island hopping, picturesque pebble beaches (and some sandy ones!), glitzy harbours and stylish bars. Popular with couples, groups and families alike, Croatia is perfect for holidaymakers who want to lounge on stunning islands, visit captivating cities and cruise around kaleidoscopic waters. Popular with trendy travellers and famed for its cool sundowner bars, lively harbours and absolutely stunning beaches, Croatia offers such varied activities that everyone will be happy. With hundreds of islands to choose from there really is an isle for everyone, whether you're in search of rest and relaxation or lots of partying. Outdoor clubs, music festivals and beach parties are the vibe on some of the livelier spots including Hvar, Dubrovnik and Split, while areas including Korcula and Mljet have gorgeous restaurants and a laid back ambience. If you love snorkelling, sailing and watersports you don't have to look far for bucketloads of beach activities and popular resorts all along the Dalmatian coastline offer all the family favourites and amenities you would expect. With a huge range of activities to enjoy both on and off the water, incredible cuisine and a fun-loving atmosphere, holidays to Croatia should be top of your list.

Places to Go and Things to Do

Sail Away

Whether you go for a day trip or decide to island hop, it's a must to explore some of the islands along the Croatian coastline. These gorgeous sun-soaked jewels offers some of the best snorkelling and diving in Europe! Mljet boasts a green, tranquil national park and a lovely sandy beach. Or try Korcula, with its town of the same name (also known as Little Dubrovnik), which offers all the best of Croatia in miniature. For the young at heart, party boats operate from Split and most major resorts.

Take a Road Trip

The Peljesac Penisula boasts stunning coastal scenery, tiny villages and sheltered coves. You’ll need a car to explore this beautiful area but the views you’ll enjoy on the journey are part of the attraction. Make sure you visit the gorgeous little town of Ston and sample some of the wine the area is famous for on a tour.

Do Dubrovnik

The ancient town of Dubrovnik, nicknamed the pearl of the Adriatic, is the main attraction for history, culture and shopping in South Dalmatia. With its winding alleyways, quirky boutiques, rich history and great choice of restaurants and bars, it captivates all its visitors. With a sunny climate long into the winter, this is a great city break option and the thriving club and bar scene means night owls will be very well entertained.

Hit the Beaches

Most of the area’s beaches are pebbly, so if you prefer the feeling of sand between your toes you need to catch a ferry to the islands of Korcula, Mljet or isolated Susak, which is almost entirely made of sand. The famous arrow-shaped beach of Zlatni Rat is possibly one of the most photographed beaches in Croatia and worth a visit. But perhaps Croatia's calling card is the abundance of beach options, you can find a new cove, bay or beach to enjoy every day, with many of them gorgeous and private. Larger resorts have great beach bars and restaurants to enjoy all day long. Even the city of Dubrovnik boasts several beaches a short distance from the city walls – perfect for recovering from all that sightseeing.

Essential Information

Getting Around

Thanks to the new motorway network travel between resorts is now much easier. Airports are normally well served by transfer options including minibuses, taxis and buses. If you’re planning to island hop the main ferry terminals are found Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Rijeka, and the service is efficient and regular, especially during the summer months. Most resorts are easy to get around on foot and taxis are readily available. Ferries run from the resorts to neighbouring islands and provide a great range of day trips.

Travelling by bus or car

Croatia's main cities are well connected by bus but it is advisable to check timetables and tourist information centres for up to date information.

Car hire is widely available but parking is difficult in cities such as Dubrovnik, and taking a car increases the cost of ferry trips. Car hire is a good option if travelling by road between smaller resorts as its much more convenient than the bus network. If you do decide to opt for car hire, remember to drive on the right.

Passports and Visas

British citizens don’t need a visa to visit Croatia but valid passports are essential. The most recent guidelines can be found at For more information and advice, visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/croatia/entry-requirements or the Foreign Office at www.fco.gov.uk/en/

Health and Safety

You’ll need travel and medical insurance for travel to Croatia. Also check that you have an up to date EHIC for emergency treatment. For more info, see www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/croatia/health

Vaccinations

Travellers to Croatia don’t need vaccinations but all tourists should make sure their routine jabs are up to date.
